Today in History - March 17
St. Patrick’s Day is an Irish and Irish-American holiday commemorating the death on March 17 circa 492, as legend has it, of Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland.
Happy St. Patrick Day. I went to the 8:30am service instead of the 10:30am service which is underway as I speak.

<a href="http://dlvr.it/T4C2GQ
http://dlvr.it/T4C2GQ<br />
You people should attend our Church. Even remotely. We have one of the most fantabulous priests North of the Equator. In his sermon, he asked us "Why do you go to Church?"

Silently, I was like "Do you want the Readers Digest answer or a Thesis?"

I go to church to replenish after being on a treadmill like a hamster all week. I go to church because the people in our church wrap me in compassion. I go to church because I am grateful to God for the wonders and miracles He has performed in my life. I go to church because our priest is very caring and handsome to boot. I go to church to get hugs from Sharon, Joyce, Rachelle, Lois. I go to church because this Gentleman in the choir gives me the tamboline (sp) to shake when we sing happy praise hims. He usually drums. He also drives a BMW suv by the way.

I go to church because these things of working from home, humans are social animals. In church, we meet and greet.

Also, in our Church, one learns something every time our priest gives the Sermon.

Did you ever read the book or watch the film "Ninety Minutes at Entebbe"? It is on Netflix, Youtube and DailyMotion.

<a href="http://dlvr.it/T40XHB
http://dlvr.it/T40XHB<br />
22 September 2019

When Uganda's military dictator took to the bush for his sectarian war in 1981, he was joined by the following categories:
1. The Rwandan refugees who were looking for an opportunity to return to their country through the force of arms.
2. The Banyankole army officers and civilians who wanted to get grap power from the 'northerners'.
3. The Baganda peasants who fell victims to Museveni's guerrilla deception.
4. The former Iddi Amin regime soldiers who were seeking safe heavens.
5. The Obote and Lutwa UNLA defectors who had no alternative.
6. A small elite class that innocently believed that the war was a revolution.
7. The innocent and overzealous illiterate and semi illiterate youth who joined out of excitement.
8. The Buganda DP supporters who sought to reclaim their poll victory from the UPC.
9. Those seeking employment.

Nonetheless, Museveni successfully manipulated all the above categories to deliver him to his childhood dream, the Presidency. Since coming to power, category 1 has left for Rwanda save for a few opportunists who playing survival games; category 2 is left with the Bahima; category 3 was left in the cold; category 4 was used and discarded; category 5 was used and is being phased out;
category 6 got a lifetime disappointment; category 7 had their future destroyed and category 8 was given a raw deal. Category 9 got what they sought and are in the service of category 2.

Once in power, Museveni used categories 2 (Banyankole army officers), 6 (unsuspecting elite corps) and 8 (the Baganda DP supporters) to consolidate his power. Once he felt he was firmly in control, he embarked on unveiling the different phases of his true character and Bush War agenda.

For the past three decades he has been unpacking his hidden agenda in phases; communist intolerance of divergent vows, power hungry, manipulative and exploitative management of public affairs, outright theft of public resources, patronage, corruption, militarism, external aggressive expeditions, selfishness, deliberate impoverishment, opportunism, sectarianism and other evils have come to light.

Corruption and abuse of office in furtherance of the above evils has been a measure of loyalty. Those who could not cope up had to leave at the earliest opportunity. Those who were still in doubt kept around but only to leave at a later stage.

In fact, for one to be free of financial scandals was a cause for Museveni and his cabal to accuse such a person of harboring presidential ambitions by maintaining a clean record. Some others were compromised and stayed inside after joining the bonanza. The rigid doubting Thomases were simply flashed out. This change of policy was well put by Museveni in his infamous pronouncement of 'Tubejjeko' (let's get rid of them from our ranks).

Since almost the last one decade, whoever has remained close to Museveni or joined him is driven by nothing other than personal economic considerations. This applied to all sectors of public life - the executive, the judiciary, the legislature, CSOs including the ordinary NRM regime membership and others.

From the a foregoing it can be authoritatively argued that Museveni's blue eyed cadre and until recently his police chief, Gen. Kalekyezi was very corrupt. Those arguing that the USA was wrong to accuse him of corruption and illegal dealing in illicit drugs and prohibited wildlife products are either ignorant or deliberately attempting to mislead Ugandans. The incorruptible parted ways with Museveni many year ago. That is why the ongoing struggle is between The Haves and The Have Nots; those in control of arms and the insecure and unarmed. For the same reasons, the former category is determined to aggressively maintain the status quo by brutally suppressing the dissenting citizens.

As usual, Fr. Brent doesn't let you leave church with a life lesson. I fear snakes like you have any idea. Sermon is usually a one way street. Otherwise, I would have told our wonderful priest that one time in Uganda, we were weeding the garden of beans and a snake came at us. We freaked out (like all kids do) and we stomped down all the beans. You have no idea how many buckets, jerrycans and buckets we had to fetch that day. Luckily, our spring is only a 5min walk away.

I went to church with a heart ache. My heart was seriously paining.

However, 4 people hugged me and God knows I needed a hug. I sat in the front pew on the left, as usual. So, we have 2 little kids who sit upfront. Thedore is growing like a bad weed. And there was Juliette too. This one is a red head with dimples in her cheeks. The first time I saw her in church, I said to Sharon Connors She looke like Annie.

Sitting besides these 2 little angels reminded me of God's love.

The self-constructed dilemma with NRM now regarding corruption is that very few people can raise a finger against the other. Each has their own skeletons in the cupboard that they fear will be pulled out once they stand up to condemn the other. The only safe thing for them is to focus on opposition or other pet topics. They can only talk about it in safe very generic terms, but their pretences are tested by giving them a concrete case to handle to prove their commitment against corruption. Then they resort to tongues, diversion, deflection, and vagueness.

Their silence about the scandals of their people in Parliament shouldn’t surprise us. Who is left with moral authority to condemn corruption! This is the reason why those plundering are doing it with untold impunity, knowing how safe they are.

It has also become Mr Museveni’s political management style - call it Management by Distributing Skeletons (MDS). That is, letting everyone become dirty so that he has them in his palm. They are secretly investigated and their files kept, and they are made to know that their file is somewhere.

This way, they will defend his hold onto power to the last dot of their energy. Not just because they benefit from his stay, but also due to the fact that their fate is intricately tied up with his. They know that prison is just a transition away. Also, even if they disagree with him, their skeletons can’t allow them to say a thing.

They only have three choices left with them:
I) Keep quiet and eat;
II) Leave quietly and stay silent;
III) Defend corrupt colleaguesMartha Leah Nangalamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03463664130343345562noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1602374101796400452.post-40549189937951718422024-03-02T10:21:00.001-08:002024-03-02T10:21:13.524-08:00Nakeesa

#UgandaMemories
I grew up in Uganda during wars.

<a href="http://dlvr.it/T3Wckq
http://dlvr.it/T3Wckq<br />
When I came to Canada to complete my High School, the first letter I wrote to my father, mzee Dan Nangalama went like

"Papa, Uryena? Balebe Baryena? Ba Mayi Baryene? Bandayesi Baryena? Papa, Canada is strange. I don't hear guns going off. Also, there are no gun trotting soldiers about. I miss home. I miss Mbuya & Nakasero"

My dad wrote back (snail mail used to take like a month but Mzee had gotten me into this habit of writing him weekly when he put me in a horrible RCC Boarding School in P5).

I used to send him letters weekly. He would reply weekly correcting my writing. So, even when I came to Canada, I handwrote a letter to my father weekly.

On the first letter, he replied "Mayi Leah, it is abnormal for children to grow up with guns going off. I know you miss home but you're in Canada and there will be no wars there".

Had I known that Canada supplies war equipment to War torn countries, I would have written to the then PM of Canada, Hon. Brian Mulroney and asked lots of questions.

I wish you could have met my Dad. He used to walk on water.
