MOBILE CASH TRANSACTIONS: MPs begin considering excise duty amendment bill



Parliament’s committee on finance and economic planning has asked telecom companies explain the criteria they use in taxing mobile money services. Some committee members said telecom companies are charging more than what government set as tax on withdrawals. The committee has started scrutinizing the Excise Duty Amendment Bill that is aimed at reducing the mobile money tax from 1% to 0.5% only on withdrawals.
