#US Pulling out from #Uganda's hunt for #LRA's #Kony; #Australia pulls back @IGPUganda @PoliceUg @UPDFspokesman

A Brilliant Genocide is a very powerful documentary. The Ugandan government can no longer hide the atrocities committed in Uganda and in the Great Lakes Regional countries.  In fact, President Trump asked why US was in #DRCongo, #Car and #SouthSudan. Even #Somalia.

The days of President Yoweri Museveni using his army #UPDF to invade countries, cause havoc, blackmail America and Europe to give him money for his egotistical self interests have come to an end.  This is only the beginning.  Yesterday US was in media cutting back UN efforts in #DRCongo which Museveni and his thugs have raped, by 25%.

Do you remember that RT (Russia Today) aired the Brilliant Genocide exactly 2 days before the army bombed Kasese leaving behind a trail of blood, corpses and arrogant generals telling us the innocent had to die because...because..WHY?  Because we wanted to re-invade DRC?  Which we did.  And now who shall locate the mass graves in which your sons and daughters are buried?  Alas! What timing...you have just been watched by over 30 million people globally about a genocide in Northern Uganda and then you proceed to slaughter people as the masses are just getting over the shock of how you killed Acholi?  BAD timing.

You will also remember that every time there is a threat of #US, #EU, #UK and #UN cutting back funding for the #AMISOM (useless African Union defence force) in #Somalia, we get more terrorist attacks.  Those who follow Ugandan politics know that UPDF trains and arms Al Shabaab.  Uganda plants bombs. Why do you think the govt prosecutor Joan Kagezi was gunned down and the investigation died?

If you like what SPAN writes, then do a Google search of "SPAN Nangalama blog".  He wrote a piece about why Joan Kagezi had to die.  She was in possession of information that Kayihura & govt had planted the Lugogo bombing which left some 67 people dead and to this day, no prosecution has taken place.  Uganda police cannot lie to us that they have arrested the killers of Kaweesi or are even close.  They know damn well who killed Kaweesi but having protected killers for decades, now the Chicken comes to Roost.  There is a God after all!  Our tears have been heard.

The Ugandan military says an aide to Lord's Resistance Army chief Joseph Kony has surrendered, a day after the United States said it will withdraw from the task force chasing the notorious rebel group.

Ugandan military officials said Thursday that Michael Omona, Kony's chief communications officer, gave himself up in the Central African Republic. Omona was part of the LRA for 23 years after being kidnapped by the group in 1994.

On Wednesday, the U.S. military said it will remove its forces from Operation Observant Compass, the task force established in 2013 to hunt down bands of LRA fighters roaming across Central Africa and bring Kony and other LRA leaders to justice.

In a statement, the U.S Africa Command said the task force has "dramatically weakened the LRA in numbers and overall effectiveness." It said the LRA has shrunk from 2,000 to under 100 fighters, and noted that four of the five key LRA leaders have been captured.

Kony, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity, remains at large. A former LRA senior commander, Dominic Ongwen, is currently on trial at the ICC in The Hague.

The African Union Peace and Security Council met in Addis Ababa Thursday to discuss the future of the anti-LRA task force. The council said on Twitter that it may recommend the force be increased, decreased, shut down or left as is.

"Though weakened, LRA remains a security threat," the council said.

A self-styled prophet, Kony launched a brutal rebellion in Uganda that displaced more than 1.5 million people before taking his group into Sudan, the CAR and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The United Nations estimated in 2013 that the LRA had killed more than 100,000 people and kidnapped more than 60,000 over the previous quarter-century.

Both numbers have likely increased since then, as the group has continued to attack villages in remote areas.

#Uganda's Gen. Kaweesi - the "hardworking police role model" @IGPUganda @PoliceUg

At 43 year of age and 17 years of public service under the Museveni regime police force, the teacher by training had attained the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police.  He had held various strategic
and sensitive command and administrative positions courtesy of political loyalty and Cadreship.

At a personal level, he had acquired the following properties for himself and his family:

1.  A magnificent 8-bedroom mansion (pictured) that sits on a 320-acre piece of land in his village.  It has a 15ft x 20ft sitting room and each of the 8 bedrooms is self contained. It has an extra 3 bathrooms and a Guest Wing with bathrooms and toilets.  It has a one-and-a-half-acre compound with more than half of it paved.  It has piped and running water that was got from sinking a borehole at the backyard.

2.  He had over 100 cows on a farm in his home village.

3.  A bungalow in Kulambiro (pictured), Kampala.  The police used to pay him a housing allowance.

4.  Five acres of land in Mbalala, Mukono near Seeta High School.

5.  One acre land in Kireka, Bulengwa, land in Namungoona, Nansana, Bweyogerere and other places in and around the greater Kampala.

6.  He had a fancy cloth shop in the city for his wife who also drives a Prado TX.

7.  His bank account is not known but most likely that in the circumstances it is lean.  Illegally acquired cash is usually disguised.

8.  He built roads, churches, mosques, and brought electricity to his home area.

While he made big strides in personal riches, he was busy designing administrative policies that saw his fellow police officers and their families evicted from those shacks and thrown in the cold.  While he often hosted occasional get together parties at his posh mansions, the children of his fellow police officers evicted from the shacks scavenged the debris of the destroyed mud shelters for what to feed
on.  The ugly scenes of police officers and their families shedding tears is a clear testimony that God was not happy with Kaweesi. The above forceful and brutal eviction was because of the February
2016 poll results that witnessed police barracks in Kampala majorly voting the opposition.

Museveni has pledged that the government is to compensate his family.  The police will continue to commit its resources to his family.  The Kwagalana (club of city tycoons) Group has given his family
25MShilling to the family and pledged to make finishing on the family's Kampala house.  If Kawesi had continued working for another five years, he would build a rail way line and airfield at his village
home.  It is reported, he harboured political ambitions of becoming a Member of Parliament.  Following his murder, the government, religious leaders and the public have applauded his magnificent wealth.  No one has come out to question its source.

Kaweesi was a gross and ruthless abuser of human rights and a partisan police stooge but no one is coming out to point out this.  For millions of children who have grown up seeing him on their TV screens as devil as confused when everyone is applauding him.  For the public servants who are poor just because they have not been abusing their offices, the glorifying of Kaweesi’s ill-gotten wealth gives them the resolve to do 'collateral damage'. At the next national function, Gen. Kaweesi will be post-humously honored with a National Hero medal.  For those who did not know Museveni's MIDDLE INCOME drive, Kaweesi is a classic example.

INFORMATION IS POWER AND DEFIANCE IS THE WAY TO GO.

#Uganda's #AprilRevolution takes shape

It started like a joke to some of us and we did not take it seriously given that previous such organised things heavily publicized on Social Media have come to nothing but from the looks of it, this one might be serious.
The Ugandan government has taken charge of this revolution.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni this week nabbed some high level officers in the Ministry of Finance for corruption.  This comes as great news for the organisers knowing that the president is now joining their revolution.
The Ministry of Works has also sacked the Managing Director for the Civial Aviation Authority over incompetence.  If this isn't a revolution then what else is?
In another move, IGP Kale Kayihura has reshuffled the top police force and even fired his personal assistant.  Things are shaping up really well.
On the other hand, Dr. Stella Nyanzi and Mrs. Janet Kataha Museveni are embroiled in a fight for humanity. One wants to give pads to all the girls while the other one wants Food Flasks for all school going children as well as cars for parents to drive their children to school so that they can avoid those notorious criminal boda bodas.
While on this discussion on efficiency and change, one Ruhakana Rugunda called an emergency meeting with Ministers to get to the bottom of why the Economy is in trouble. Apparently it is now all Buy Made in Uganda.  Hallelujah!  At least the Rolex stands were not kocked down and now that Nakivubo is gone, everyone can vend their merchandise from their mizigo in the slums of Kampala.  Middle Income Status is for real.
In other developments, Uganda National Road Authority (UNRA) is going to spend $40 million to combat gender violence.  This likely means they are going to educate rapists that it is wrong to rape women even if you are Chinese.  What would be interesting would be if verification of valid work permits is done. Oh, how many pads and food flasks could we buy with $40 million?  It is the fault of those who let criminals get away with impunity but the day is nigh. We are going to install CCTV cameras along all roads and make Mexico pay for it.
Mzee Kaguta is not a joking matter.  He has vowed to end Urban Terrorism starting with Kampala. Incidentally, it is possible that KCCA does not even know that they are in trouble. Send out all the Crime Promoters mzee, we are making progress.  Sorry, I meant Crime Preventers. Slip of the tongue.
Oxfam is joining the revolution by exposing that Rich Ugandans own 35.7% of the country's wealth.  The question then becomes, who owns the other 60% based on the assumption that the remaining Ugandans only own 4.3%?  The Mafia is real!
Then the schools.  Exactly who told you people that Ugandans will let their kids go to schools which are shacks and have no pit latrines or water? Whatever happened to the good old habit of going to the bush and learning under a mango tree?  Bring Back Real Education and #MakeUgandaGreatAgain!  You do also have the option of sending your kids to the great schools in Kampala area that have all amenties. So what if 1300 schools have been closed so far and more are to be closed?  Teach the kids under trees so they can feel the cool breeze of fresh air and have the rain pour down on them and wash away our sins!
Time to check in with #TVO, aka SHAKA for the progress on this new change which is sweeping the country from the hilltops of Mount Rwenzori to the tip of Mount Masaba!  Did we hear Gashumba's voice yet?  We wait to also hear from UPFF and SCOF.
#AprilRevolution.  #YesWeCan.

#Parenting is really hard work - kids grow up too fast

Three weeks ago, Mini was so sick she could not move or feed herself and she was missing her "social life" and it half broke both of us down.

A child who had never been sick since she was a baby was suddenly horribly sick at age 16 and of course we did the hospital things.  Some of my close friends and family know this.  I had not spent all night up in many years and all of a sudden I was watching fever and "water, mom water, mom, take me to the bathroom".

Of course I enjoyed the entire week of no sleep and caring for her while she was livid that in March break she could not go out and hang out with her friends.  She is okay now.

Three days ago she was staying in Moncton at one of her friend's places and something happened to her phone.  She called to ask if she could go in and get a free replacement.

I was livid.  I said somethings I should never have said.  But she has forgiven me.  You see, she goes through 2-3 smart phones every year when our Telco only allows each family member to get a free phone after every 2yrs.  The contract is clear.  But we get these things "I was talking to Cam while riding my bicycle and my phone fell on the pavement".  OR "I am not sure but maybe the dog walked on my phone".  OR I do not know but I think it fell by itself.

So after all these excuses of having to always pay for a new phone, one reacts.  Then she pipes in "but I got really good grades. Did you look at my report card?".  AND this is where Things Fall Apart.  Baby, do you know that I grew up on an analog phone which was always locked up at 9pm and only unlocked at 9am?  "Mom, but that is so like whatever!  Kids these days need their phones.  If I go to school without a phone, how will you text me?".  So I told her to use the pay phone or give me all the mobile numbers of her friends and we use them.

"Do you know how embarrassing that would be for me to walk up to my friends and ask them to let me use their phone to text you and then give the phone back and then you text that phone and tell me something like "you will eat whatever I make for supper?".  Mom, that would totally ruin my life!""

To cut the long story short, she got a new phone.  She is a signor on the acccount and could have billed everything to the account.  But non.  When she gave her phone to be repaired on warranty (6mths left on warranty), the Rep told her that her phone had seen some abuse.  So out of the $900+ she had to pay for the phone, Rogers Wireless charged her only something like $260 for her iPhone 7. She is the only family member on Apple.  But I was thinking, she got away with murder.

She did pay the difference after Rogers Wireless paying the bulk for her to get the teen phone and she came home and sighed saying "I am going to be really protective with this phone".  I cried that day because for some reason our little one does not see how hard it is for the majority of the world to even get one meal.  Until she reminds me that she has been working for years and will now pay all her bills and whatever else.

I went to bed and cried.  I cried for the 3 days.  I think I was still really burned out from that one week when I had to wash, cloth and feed a young lady with a strong mind of her own.  Maybe I cried because she has grown up too fast.  Maybe I cried because my entire village in Uganda does not even have enough food and her contribution of $260 for her phone after Rogers had cut back everything could have fed my entire village for the whole month.

Perhaps I cried because in her I see the new generation which does not think beyond themselves. I could also have cried because I miss that one week when she was so sick and I had to care for her.  Or did I cry because she is much too much like me...beat your own drum and dance to it except I would never leave anyone behind?

I may have cried because her first tournament after a whole 10 days of being invalid and her returning to the court only got her one gold, one silver and one bronze when all her life she wants only gold.  I think I may have cried because I do not understand why anyone would want gold so badly that they would risk being hurt in sports and just go for it!

I really cried because she has grown out of my arms.  So this morning as she was on her way to school, I texted her  and she did not block me.  "Baby, I love you profoundly.  I will not yell at you ever again.  It hurts too much and I cannot bear it".

"Mom, I love you too.  I will try to not say the things which get you angry".  OH.. you have no idea what things she does say and she knows it.

For now, PEACE REIGNS.  May you enjoy your journey with your own child.  God never makes a mistake.  In His perfect image He will show you too.

Before you ask who killed AIGP Kaweesi, Who killed Brig Noble Mayombo? #Uganda @IGPUganda @PoliceUg

This Sunday March 30, 2014, The London Evening Post begins a special and detailed investigation into the mysterious deaths, disappearances and unexplained car accidents that have taken place since the National Resistance Movement (NRM) shot its way to power nearly 30 years ago and claimed the lives of many Ugandans from all corners of the country.

The investigation will look beyond 1986, the year the NRM came to power and try to understand who was and continues to be behind the killing of prominent people that include heads of state, businessmen and women, politicians, ordinary citizens and most of all, high ranking officers and men of the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF).

Our investigation will start with revealing what we have been told is the thinking of the UPDF. How long are they going to let their fellow officers be killed, subjected to unexplained arrests and sent to die in battles in foreign lands? Is the Uganda army surely still solidly behind Gen Yoweri Museveni? Who are “The Three Musketeers” now running Uganda with an iron fist?

Many people inside and outside Uganda have agreed to join us to take on this mammoth task. Many are still serving in the Museveni Government, something that clearly shows all is not well inside the Museveni camp. We will discuss why the bush general is now walking with his eyes fixed behind him, not sure whether to trust even his closest bodyguards.

This is going to be a long investigation and this Sunday we will mention only a few of those we have so far investigated and will tell our readers what we have found. For example, our investigations will reveal that Brig Noble Mayombo used his position in the army to buy something very important that might have hastened his untimely death. What was it? Many have sent us comments that former Speaker of the Uganda Parliament James Wapakhabulo died from AIDS, Really? We have information to the contrary. The same has been spoken about Lt Col Serwanga Lwanga. We will look at what we have been told could have actually happened to him.

Do you remember Maj Gen Kazini – the tall general who was allegedly clobbered to death by his girlfriend who is now serving a prison term? Our sources will name “the giant” that Gen David Sejusa spoke about last year as being the one responsible for Kazini’s murder. On whose orders was this assassin operating? We will reveal the information we have been supplied by a UPDF ‘insider’. And what about Gen Dr John Garang de Mabior? Did he really die as a result of a helicopter crash? We have information that will shock the people of south Sudan as well as the family of the helicopter’s pilot who have been mourning their loved one since.

For those of you who were mature and living in Kampala soon after Idi Amin was overthrown in 1979, you will perhaps recall the sudden rise of killings by unknown gunmen who traversed the capital’s streets in a bus and carried out killings involving strangers that had nothing to do with politics. The bodies of their victims were left lying on the streets of Kampala for several days. Ever wondered why no investigation has ever been carried out about these killings? Who was behind them and why? We will investigate.

What happened behind the scenes on the day the then National Resistance Army entered Kampala? Was it indeed a ‘bloodless coup’ as we have been made to believe? Shock! Horror! We reveal all. This investigation starts on Mothering Sunday. Many mothers will sit and remember their loved ones who were taken away and no attempt has ever been made to explain who was behind their deaths. We will try to give comfort to these mothers by revealing information that has come into our hands regarding those that were behind these killings?

In our investigations, we have come across ‘a pattern of things’ that will shock everyone. Why haven’t we ever looked at this pattern before? Who are the main players in this pattern? Are they still alive? In today’s world, those behind this pattern of killings would be described by psychiatrists as having the mind of a serial killer. Do we then have a serial killer on the loose in Uganda? If we do, who is it? We will investigate.

We continue to appeal to all Ugandans with information regarding these killings to contact us. We will never reveal our sources of information as we are bound by our journalistic ethics never, ever to reveal their names NO MATTER WHAT. Anyone who was in a position to know what was going on is kindly asked to send us an email and we will contact you.

The London Evening Post is very grateful to those of our readers who have contacted us and given us detailed information regarding what has been going on in Uganda all these years. Some of the information we are unable to collaborate and cannot be 100 per cent sure of its credibility. But we have information that could only have been known by those in the theatre of operations.

We will deal with any information given to us with the utmost professionalism we pride ourselves
Throughout our investigation, we will encourage Ugandans to put aside the fear they have of the regime and embark on the road to liberation. The regime has used the fear of death to silence the majority. We will be appealing to you all to rise up and put fear aside and confront those that have put us under this spell. For it is only through being courageous that we will save Uganda.

There will be many roadblocks on the way, but by now we surely have become used to going around them.  Finally, we would like to reiterate that while we investigate these killings, we are not calling for revenge. We will be advocating for a truth and reconciliation committee to help us come to terms with what has happened to the country and discuss means by which all will sign to the understanding that this current system of things ought never to be repeated.

We therefore invite all to join us this Mothering Sunday as we investigate the facts behind those that have mysteriously departed from us and whose deaths have never been properly investigated. We would also like all to spend a minute on Sunday to remember those that have lost their lives in suspicious circumstances. Remember them in your own ways.

Send us names of those you want us to remember who died in such circumstances so that we may post their names in The London Evening Post this Sunday. In sending these names, we are asking that you tell us a little bit about what they were and how they met their deaths. This remembrance is only for those Ugandans who died in tragic and unexplained circumstances, not those who died in natural ways. We will remember them.

#Uganda #media watchdog bans Advertising religious fakery

In a bid to redeem itself for censoring intellectuals, academicians, political opponents and crashing freedom of speech, the useless UCC has finally decided to do something that will none the less not side track us from the recent insanity of banning The People vs. The thugs in authority show.

While UCC colludes with the soon to be forgotten media houses like NBSTV, we shall still go to the churches, give away the little savings we have, carry out all nighters and immerse ourselves in fake religion as we buy fake miracle rice, fake tea, fake water and allow the charlatans to mine sand illegally while we wait for the good Lord to return and deliver us from the fangs of the hypocrites in our leadership.

ALAS!  Did one minister not recently say that we must not encroach on the religious rights of witches and wizards or did he say we should condemn child sacrifice.  It seems like only yesterday when a high level minister was protecting witchcraft and give our government enough rope, they will hang themselves.

Today it is them Hallellujah Praise  The Lord Types and the 77 Days of Glorious Sinning and tomorrow it shall be the Muslim Clerics and their Mosques being raided. How low shall we fall in praising greed, lies, corruption, theft, murder and hooliganism?  Do the dead cry or could they return and tell us how all our worshiping of fake gods have taken the Pearl of Africa down a bloody path to what is now obviously The Peril of Africa?

Did we not mourn the Muslim clerics that were gunned down like senior government officials and then move on and plant our maize which is being ravaged by Ndiwulira?  Or have we forgotten when prayers were banned and everyone went about their Boda Boda business even when they knew very well that boda bodas are now considered criminals?

The nation might realise too late that all the mosques, palaces and Kingdom worshipping halls shall not protect Ugandans from the Ugandans whom they have for decades feasted upon as though one group were a parasite and the others were the victims?

In the end, while you sit on the high chair or stand proudly in a bullet proof casing claiming to be a committed Christian or Born again as though the gods made a mistake in your first birthing, your piety will not protect you from the wrath of the ones you tell to buy food flasks even after they have gone hungry for days.  Go ahead and close all the schools as they return to the villages and learn how to use pangas and other rudimentary objects of violence which will come crashing at the gates of La Bastille.

#US might be funding torture of #Somalis in #Kenya - #HumanRights

The US is funding security operatives in Kenya in what it claims is an effort to combat the spread of terrorism in the country. However, there are many accounts of innocent Somalis who end up being tortured and then discarded in the streets, whilst others go missing.
Kenya's anti-terrorism police officers have detained six terror suspects in the coastal town of Malindi and say that al-Shabaab militants are planning to use suicide bombers to execute attacks targeting key government facilities and popular public places which the police say should be put under increased vigilance to foil any attacks. This comes as the Angaza Foundation for African Reporting says Kenyan security operatives who torture Somali terror suspects in Kenya are part of a US-funded counter-terrorism strategy across Africa that is leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
For years, the US has propped up some of the worst human rights violators in Africa, a trend that UN experts warn may get worse under President Donald Trump, who has reiterated his support for torture against terror suspects, and has already started making good on his campaign promises to aggressively crack down on terror groups. In 2016, the US gave $120m worth of support to the Kenyan military and $8m to the police.
The same year, Human Rights Watch documented 34 enforced disappearances in Nairobi and northeast Kenya linked to counter-terrorism operations. Meanwhile, it is unclear whether the US’s so-called “war on terror” in Africa is working. Attacks have quadrupled since 2009, and fatalities are up by 850%. While the collapse of Libya has played a major role in the sharp rise in numbers, as has the expansion of Daesh Takfiri Terrorism, failings by national security agencies may also shoulder some blame.

Bodies of #UN experts found in #DRCongo

The United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo, MONUSCO, confirmed on March 28, 2017, that the bodies of Zaida Catalán, a Swede, and Michael Sharp, an American, were found by UN peacekeepers near Bunkonde in Kasai Central province on March 27.
The two members of the UN Group of Experts on Congo had been reported missing, along with their Congolese interpreter, Betu Tshintela, a motorbike driver, Isaac Kabuayi, and two unidentified motorbike drivers, on March 12, while investigating large-scale human rights violations in the region. The UN reported that efforts continue to find the team’s Congolese members.
The following quote can be attributed to Ida Sawyer, Central Africa director at Human Rights Watch:
“We express our deepest condolences to the families, colleagues, and friends of Michael and Zaida, who lost their lives while seeking truth, justice, and an end to the violence and abuse that Congolese in the Kasai region and beyond have long suffered. We hope that the UN’s search efforts promptly locate Betu, Isaac, and their two other Congolese colleagues. Our thoughts are with their loved ones. An international, independent investigation is urgently needed into these deaths and disappearances, and the broader violence in the Kasai region, to help end the abuses there and bring those responsible to justice."
The Democratic Republic of Congo government should fully cooperate with United Nations efforts to locate a UN Group of Experts team that has been missing since March 12, 2017, in Kasai Central province, Human Rights Watch said today.
Those missing are Michael Sharp, an American; Zaida Catalán, a Swede; Betu Tshintela, a Congolese interpreter; Isaac Kabuayi, a driver; and two unidentified motorbike drivers. They were investigating widespread human rights abuses near the remote village of Bunkonde, south of the provincial capital, Kananga.
“We are extremely worried about the missing UN team,” said Ida Sawyer, Central Africa director at Human Rights Watch. “The Congolese government should cooperate fully with the UN and other international investigators to do all they can to bring the team back safely.”
On March 13, the Congolese government announced that Sharp and Catalán had “fallen into the hands of unidentified negative forces,” but has provided no additional information.
The UN peacekeeping mission in Congo, MONUSCO, deployed Uruguayan peacekeepers and Tanzanian special forces on a search and rescue operation for the missing people. These efforts have suffered from a lack of cooperation from the Congolese government.
On March 18, MONUSCO expressed “serious concern over restrictions placed on its freedom of movement by security forces in Kananga,” which “restrict the ability of the Mission to exercise its mandate.”
This is the first time that UN experts have been reported missing in Congo, Human Rights Watch said. It is also the first recorded disappearance or abduction of international workers in the Kasai provinces, a region that until recently had been largely peaceful, unlike eastern Congo, which has long been embattled by dozens of armed groups.
The UN Group of Experts on Congo, established in 2004, consists of six experts appointed by the UN secretary-general to monitor the Security Council’s sanctions regime for Congo and to propose individuals and entities to be added to the sanctions list. The experts collect and analyze information about armed group activities, their networks, arms trafficking, and those responsible for serious human rights violations. Their reports are among the most comprehensive and reliable sources of information about conflict dynamics in the Great Lakes region of Africa.
On March 12, France called on MONUSCO and the Congolese authorities to “deploy all necessary resources” to find the missing UN team. Germany later made a similar call, while Belgium said that the UN team’s disappearance was “a serious blow to the efforts of the international community to bring back peace and stability in the DRC.”
Since large-scale violence erupted in the Kasai region in August 2016, more than 400 people have been killed and more than 200,000 displaced from their homes, according to the UN. Human Rights Watch has received reports of scores of people killed in recent weeks.
The violence in the Kasai region is purportedly about customary control over local chieftaincies, but there are also clear ties to national political dynamics, with the Congolese army backing the leadership of people seen to be loyal to President Joseph Kabila and his political coalition, and the Kamuina Nsapu militia groups supporting people seen to be closer to the opposition.
The violence escalated after security forces killed Kamuina Nsapu, the apparent heir to the throne of a chieftaincy in the Tshimbulu area, in August. Since his death, the militia named after him has grown into more of a popular movement than an organized armed group with clear command structures. Some militia members have turned their demands to the national political crisis, calling for President Kabila to step down. His constitutionally mandated two-term limit ended on December 19.
The militia has recruited large numbers of children, and its members believe in magic powers that they say make them impervious to bullets. Carrying sticks and other crude weapons, militia members have attacked security forces and some government buildings in Kasai, Kasai Central, Kasai Oriental, Sankuru, and Lomami provinces.
Congolese government officials said on March 21 that 67 police officers and several Congolese army officers had been killed in the Kasaï region since the violence broke out.
Security forces have at times responded to the militia with excessive force, unnecessarily firing on alleged militia members or supporters, including women and children.
Over two dozen mass graves have been reported in three Kasai provinces since January. Five videos have also emerged from the Kasais in recent weeks, showing soldiers firing on unarmed or lightly armed alleged militia members, including many women and children.
The UN Human Rights Council and UN member countries should support the call by the UN high commissioner for human rights to create a commission of inquiry or a similar independent, international investigation into the situation in the Kasai region, Human Rights Watch said. This could be adopted at a special session of the Human Rights Council.
On March 22, Congo’s human rights minister said in her closing remarks at the Human Rights Council’s Interactive Dialogue on Congo that the Congolese government would cooperate with MONUSCO and the African Union in their investigations into the violence in the Kasais.

“The missing UN team reflects a bigger picture of violence and abuse in the Kasai region,” Sawyer said. “The Human Rights Council should establish a commission of inquiry into abuses in the region as soon as possible. Concerted efforts are urgently needed to address this increasingly desperate situation.”

DR Congo: Bodies of Two UN Experts Found

The Democratic Republic of Congo government should fully cooperate with United Nations efforts to locate a UN Group of Experts team that has been missing since March 12, 2017, in Kasai Central province. They were investigating widespread human rights abuses near the remote village of Bunkonde, south of the provincial capital, Kananga.

@FrankGashumba lawyers serve @NBSTV notice to sue - #Uganda #Media #Censorship

The following is the post on Mr. Frank Gashumba's Facebook page following the accusations by NBSTV that have been making the rounds on Social Media.
His lawyers have also served notice to NBSTV for a possible lawsuit.
 ------------
NBS TV yes you have the visual and Frank Gashumba has a brand!! This letter which has been circulating on the social media shows you the level of institutions and organizations we have in this country. When I tell you that this country is dead, I don't mean political and government institutions alone!!

Every fiber in this country is dead that's why we urgently need God's intervention!! How can a Chief Marketing Officer write such a defamatory letter!! In protocol, such a letter can't be written by a marketing officer!! It's the HR department that handles such matters.

I resigned on the 17th March and I told them pointblank that there is no way UCC determines and decides how NBS runs its shows and programming. So when someone says that I changed my mind, that person needs help. Some of us have values and principles that have kept us alive!! Who is Simon Muyanga to moderate a show that I hatched????

No way! Eagles don't fly with other birds. Where has it been written in any Bible or Quran that every show in Uganda must be moderated!!! VILLAGERS!! Now back to my point, when did a TV Station become a Police Station! How can a TV station rely on falsehoods, when did a TV station become a compliant, an investigator, a prosecutor, judge and a Supreme Court.

Even murder suspects have a right to be heard! Gashumba has his physical place of work. A few meters from my office, there is a police station. I don't drive a tinted car! So how do you complain when you can choose to come to my office or lodge a complaint at Police! How can a mature person of sound choose to report to a TV station!!

To me they don't exist!! I have instructed my lawyers to take on NBS!! U know sometimes when we keep quiet they think we are all fools! In my entire life, I don't fight small wars, I go in for serious battles!! The rest I am living it to my lawyers.

You further stated that To NBS, image is critical; and to this end we are also reviewing the image of Mr. Frank Gashumba in relation to our brand over the flying allegation.,"

This same letter has been uploaded onto the official SOS Television facebook wall for the whole world to react. It is well within your knowledge that our client is an international traveler who is a father, an entrepreneur who delivers motivational talks locally and internationally, but you have recklessly and maliciously injured his reputation and his business as a motivational speaker. Clearly, the words like "conned; "image of Frank Gashumba", and "Investigating" are all unequivocally defamatory.

#Uganda minister defends witchcraft citing freedom to worship

Min. Nadduli, District Boss Clash over Juju Ban

The Minister without Portfolio Hajji Abdul Nadduli has clashed with the Luwero district LC5 chairperson Ronald Ndawula, over the ban of witchcraft in the district.

Recently, Luweero District Security Committee banned gatherings convened to exorcise or drive out demons from people and removing fetishes from villages, citing extortion by witchdoctors.

But Ndawula explained that in many cases people believe they suffer from evil spirits yet they have diseases that can be treated medically. Following the ban, the Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura ordered Police officers to stop escorting witchdoctors to conduct exorcism, saying witchcraft is illegal in Uganda.

He directed the arrest of any officer found escorting witchdoctors to conduct exorcism.

Nadduli says the ban contravenes the right to worship, as per the Constitution of Uganda. According to Nadduli, the gatherings of exorcism help to restore peace and save people from deaths plotted by evil doers in society through witchcraft.

He argues that Ndawula should have proposed how to regulate the activities of the witchdoctors instead of banning such gatherings. Nadduli reveals that he has received a petition from the witchdoctors challenging the ban and forwarded it to Museveni.

In his defense, Ndawula explains that he isn’t opposed to traditional worship, but that witchdoctors use gatherings to extort money from members of the public.

PICTURES: #Uganda opposition leader #Besigye slips past police AGAIN

Dr. Kizza Warren Besigye managed to beat police and show up for a meeting in Kayunga to discuss with the residents about their land.

While there was heavy deployment and the road closed off with many uniformed police officers, it was only discovered much later that Besigye had slipped through and was already in Kayunga.

It seems that Besigye's supporters kept the police busy all day as their leader managed to get away.
While police stopped Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, Harold Kaija, Hon. Kasibante, Hon. Allan Ssewanyana, Ingrid Turinamwe, etc. other leaders like Hon. Munyagwa, Hon. Mwijukye, Hon. Amuriat  had already arrived at the venue with Besigye.

The meeting was held in Kayunga - Bbaale community with a big crowd in attendance for Besigye's address to the people about the land grabbing.

The police did not let all go off without a hitch. On his way back from the rally, crowds were hit with teargas at the Kayonza trading centre!
