Manchester United 2 - 1 Middlesbrough Review

United were set to face Middlesbrough on the final match of the year, with ex-reds Victor Valdes and Fabio Da Silva on the opposite side. (Fabio came in during the last minutes of the match).

The starting line-up had Smalling and Bailly replacing Jones and Rojo (Probably to play the latest against West Ham on monday); and Fellaini replacing Carrick due to illness.

During the first minutes of the game there was a chance for Traoré, a counter attack in which he received the ball and was heading for the goal with only Valencia in front of him. Valencia did the right thing, he waited for Traoré to come. Traoré had options at his right and his left but he decides to do it himself. If Valencia had pushed him then Traoré would have given the ball to his team mates it would have benn a goal. Credits go to Valencia for waiting and to Bailly for coming back to defense.

United attacked in multiple occasions, Pogba had a nice overhead kick which hit the post and the Martial with a powerful shot that hit the post too.
Sadly, Lee Mason (referee) made it difficult for us by disallowing Ibrahimovic's goal. Zlatan kicked the ball with his foot, but he moved it after kicking the ball. By the moment he collided with Valdes the ball was already in and his foot was down.

You've got to give credit to Valdes, the b*stard had a tough time at United and maybe he wanted revenge or something.
Middlesbrough goal was completely out of context, United were in control of the match and they score. Smalling couldn't catch the high-ball and then he also lost the goalscorer of course he is not to blame, it was a difficult situation. He was replaced after that incident.

The changes were good, we had to take all the risks and we ended up playing with a very attacking team. The first United goal proved why Pogba and Zlatan can't be substituted, even if they have a regular match they can surprise you with something special. Pogba to Zlatan, a header to Martial who puts it in the net. One minute later, Mata to Pog... BOOM!!! and we're all jumping off our seats.

As everybody is saying, the match was a wink to Sir Alex's time at United, winning in Fergie Time.
A few talking points, Martial has proved he owns the left-wing from now on, Rashford played really well when he came on, and Fellaini... Most of fans were worried when we found out he was going to play from the start. He wasn't good and he wasn't bad, he was just in the match. He had a couple of shots at goal, but both shots were received kindly by Valdes. Surely, many fans will agree that Schweinsteiger could have done a better job.

I hope you enjoyed the match, Happy New Year to everybody!!!

Manchester United Diehard.
